Our work / Six connected workstreams

Build the conditions
for nature to endure.

We connect evidence, institutions and finance to turn ecosystem dependency into practical stewardship.

Capabilities aligned to the mission

From a better account
to a funded commitment.

01 / Understand

Natural Capital Intelligence

Establish the ecological and economic baseline. Map ecosystem extent, condition, services and maintenance needs using transparent, spatially grounded methods.

Outputs: SEEA-aligned account prototypes, ecosystem service assessments, catchment baselines and decision dashboards.

02 / Attribute

Beneficiary Assessment

Identify who benefits from nature and how dependency translates into exposure and a reasonable stewardship contribution.

Outputs: beneficiary maps, dependency assessments, payment methodologies and contribution scenarios.

03 / Organise

Catchment Institutions

Design enduring governance that connects local stewardship with the wider beneficiaries of catchment services.

Outputs: CAT design, governance options, stewardship compacts and institutional implementation plans.

04 / Mobilise

Stewardship Finance

Develop ways to fund maintenance over multiple years, connecting beneficiary commitments, partnership funds and suitable financing.

Outputs: funding architecture, payment schedules, financing options and proposed stewardship instrument design.

05 / Verify

Measurement & Assurance

Design systems that connect money spent, work delivered and ecological change, with clear boundaries between estimates and observations.

Outputs: indicators, reporting frameworks, attribution controls and assurance readiness.

06 / Enable

Policy & Market Development

Explore the standards, incentives and public policy settings that can make shared stewardship a normal part of economic life.

Outputs: policy briefs, funding standard proposals, adoption pathways and institutional engagement.

How we engage

Start with a clear decision.

Scope the question

Agree the catchment, beneficiary group or institutional decision, the evidence available and the intended use of the work.

Develop the practical pathway

Build the analysis and institutional options with the people who will use them. Make assumptions, uncertainty and specialist requirements explicit.

Prepare for implementation

Define responsibilities, budgets, milestones and reporting. Bring in scientific, legal, accounting and financial expertise where required.

Our intellectual foundations

Repricing nature.
Regrounding value.

Repricing Nature makes ecological dependency visible in economic decisions. Regrounding Value asks how institutions, finance and monetary systems can better reflect the living systems they depend on.

These foundations inform our applied work. Gaia Vista concentrates them into a practical New Zealand stewardship mission, while our wider research continues on Substack.
