About
Axis Mundi was born of the conviction that what we fail to value, we fail to protect. In an age of accelerating biodiversity loss and fiscal blind spots, we believe natural capital must be brought onto the balance sheet—not to commodify it, but to clarify its essential role in public wealth and intergenerational wellbeing.
We support governments, iwi, investors, NGOs, and scientists to:
Build ecosystem asset registries and valuation pilots
Integrate natural capital into fiscal frameworks and credit metrics
Co-design regionally grounded accounting and governance systems
We work from Aotearoa, for the world.
What We Do
1. Ecosystem Asset Registries
We support the mapping, measurement, and valuation of ecosystems across urban, rural, and conservation landscapes—layering ecological condition, service flows, and cultural significance into coherent asset accounts.
2. Fiscal Scenario Modelling
We quantify the effect of natural capital integration on debt-to-net-worth ratios, credit scores, and resilience metrics—demonstrating how nature improves national performance.
3. Strategic Advisory
We craft white papers, investor briefs, Treasury memos, and cross-agency strategies that shift policy logic toward long-term ecological wellbeing.
Current Focus: Aotearoa First
New Zealand has the frameworks, the values, and the people needed to lead.
Axis Mundi’s current focus is:
Supporting Stats NZ and Treasury to evolve SEEA Ecosystem Accounts
Co-developing regional pilots with councils, iwi, and science partners
Advocating for open-data valuation platforms governed in NZ
Building public understanding of natural capital’s fiscal and cultural value
We’re beginning where we stand—on the whenua we call home.
